NEINVER receives BREEAM In-Use certifications for Spain & Portugal at MAPIC

Cannes, 13 November 2013 – NEINVER, Europe’s second-largest operator of outlet centres (2012 ICSC ranking), is celebrating its BREEAM success after achieving BREEAM In-Use certifications for its five Spanish outlet centres and the one that the Group manages in Portugal.

The Group’s commitment to sustainable retail property development was recognised today with these new certifications at MAPIC, the leading international retail property market event. Gavin Dunn, Director of BREEAM, presented the six BREEAM In-Use certifications to Eduardo Ceballos, Southern Europe Director of NEINVER, and to Lurdes Martins, Country Manager of NEINVER Portugal, in a ceremony at the Company’s exhibit during the international retail summit.

NEINVER also has BREEAM-certified developments in the outlet centres in the Spanish cities of Seville, Getafe and Las Rozas. Furthermore, three NEINVER-managed centres have been verified by BREEAM in their design and post-construction phases: FACTORY Krakow, Coruña The Style Outlets and FACTORY Warsaw Annopol. The Group has an ambitious plan to apply BREEAM In-Use certifications to its entire European portfolio by the end of 2013.

In the words of Lurdes Martins, Country Manager of NEINVER Portugal; ‘NEINVER is a company committed to driving sustainability performance and creating a healthier, more attractive sales environment for our retail brands and visitors. In recent years, NEINVER has used BREEAM to certify all new buildings to help manage and improve the sustainability performance of our assets. And now we are proud to have successfully implemented sustainable measures required by BREEAM in our centre Vila do Conde The Style Outlets, in use since 2004’.

Gavin Dunn, Director of BREEAM, said, ‘NEINVER’s ultimate goal is to incorporate the concept of sustainability into each and every business activity of the company, to reduce the business’s total carbon footprint. The long-term positive impact on reducing costs is also a key driver. BREEAM gives them a framework for achieving these positive improvements, both in the design of new developments and their operation and maintenance’.

NEINVER’s BREEAM In-Use-certified retail portfolio includes the Spanish centres Coruña The Style Outlets, San Sebastián de los Reyes The Style Outlets, Las Rozas The Style Outlets, Getafe The Style Outlets and Sevilla The Style Outlets, and Vila do Conde The Style Outlets in Portugal. During the event, the centres in Coruña and San Sebastián de los Reyes received special mention due to their high scores.

‘Using BREEAM means we focus not only on the buildings’ initial design and construction, but we also keep in mind the best, most efficient maintenance and upkeep once the facilities are in use. In the case of Spain, we can say we walk alongside BREEAM in implementing sustainable construction as members of their advisory board, but our commitment is also reflected in our centres. Coruña The Style Outlets was the pioneer in obtaining a BREEAM certificate not only for its design, but also the first to obtain the post-construction certificate, and now BREEAM In-Use certification has become a sustainability benchmark in our sector’, said Eduardo Ceballos, Southern Europe Director of NEINVER.
