Sustainability as a key to innovation

Combining growth with sustainability is now one of NEINVER's priorities in planning its business strategy. As a benchmark company in the retail property sector, we consider it essential to innovate with new development and management models that ensure the efficiency of our centres and respond to the demands of investors, clients and shoppers.

Sustainability is a strategic axis to be promoted across the company, in all our business lines. Therefore, since 2008, NEINVER has made progress in this area and has set itself the challenge of developing and certifying all its centres according to the BREEAM Europe environmental specifications.

"A sustainable project should consider its long-term effects and the BREEAM certificate is a tool that helps us develop efficient buildings integrated into their surroundings. Implementing this system at Coruña The Style Outlets is letting us monitor the centre's performance over a wide range of criteria: health, water consumption, energy, recycling and gas emissions."

NEINVER

The company's goal is to ensure that environmental criteria are included right from the initial design and development phase, and then to ensure efficient maintenance, reducing consumption and the upkeep costs.

This commitment is embodied in the certification of the new properties opened in Europe since 2009. Coruña The Style Outlets marked the first milestone by becoming the first shopping centre in Spain to receive this prestigious international certification, positioning NEINVER at the forefront of sustainable architecture in the European retail sector.

BREEAM recognises the design of Coruña The Style Outlets as respectful of the environment and of the people who use the centre, while promoting efficient management:

  • 45% energy savings by taking advantage of natural light and using energy-efficient lighting systems.

  • Reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by 37%.

  • Optimising consumption of drinking water by using efficient drip-irrigation systems that generate savings of up to 23%.

  • Reducing waste volume by 82% through increased recycling.
